#1 - The importance of sticking to your word
Episode 1 of the Convex Chronicle
Good afternoon,
If you’re reading this it means you’re one of the first subscribers to my newsletter. So the first thing I want to do is thank you for trusting me with your time and attention.
I started and announced the newsletter last Wednesday with the intention of publishing the first one the next day.
This was a poor plan as it was the first day of my new job and I underestimated how much I needed to prepare.
So here we are. I’ll be honest, I considered quitting before I even started. The post that I put out to announce it didn’t get much traction and I felt stupid for missing the first day I want meant to publish.
I had a similar experience with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which I started quite recently. I went to a few sessions initially and then had a 2 week break due to work.
The next time I had the time to return to the sessions I wasn’t feeling like going anymore. I had doubts. I was coming up with excuses for why I shouldn’t go.
I decided to go “one last time” and let that session be the decider for if I continued.
Long story short- I loved it. I was immediately reminded of why I wanted to start going in the first place and all my doubts disappeared.
That’s how I feel about the first issue of this newsletter too. I’m feeling doubt but I’m not going to let that interfere with the plan I made.
The commitment I made was to publish once every week. And I will execute on that without fail.
If you say you’re going to do something, do it. If you’re not sure if you’re going to do it, don’t say you’re going to do it.
Your mind observes your actions 24/7 and internalises the evidence it sees. If you show your mind that you aren’t someone who sticks with what they say, it will believe you.
And the same is true vice versa. Show yourself that you’re someone who sticks with what they commit to.
That’s it for this week.
Thanks for reading and always feel free to email me back with feedback/any questions you have.
Catch you next week!
Oliver.
